For those of you who know me, know how near and dear this cause is to my heart. About 7 years ago I lost my brother and not a day goes by where I don't think about him or wonder what I could have done differently or if I could have done anything at all. I received the call from the coroner at a studio where I was teaching at the time and immediately fell into my best friend's arms. I obviously needed to take time off from teaching but the support I received from the pole community, who I now consider some of my very best friends, was more than I could have ever imagined. I struggled a lot to articulate how I was feeling because I just had no words. I was grateful for a place to go and to be with people who didn't expect me to express myself verbally. Honestly, I am not sure what I would have done without pole at the time. My body expressed what my voice could not. My body chose the music and moved how it needed. It felt (and still does) healing. It also forced me to be around others rather than isolating in a dark room for days on end.

I know I am not alone in this and that there are others impacted by thoughts of suicide or the loss of someone close to them. Please help us gain awareness and support for suicide prevention and honoring those who have passed. Donations will be accepted throughout September.

The main event, Pole For Prevention, will take place on: Saturday, September 9th 11am-3pm at 500 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe, CT 06468. This event is free to attend and donation based. There will be raffles and vendors and many opportunities to get moving from 11am-3pm. No experience required. The pole room will be open (and supervised) for those who wish to practice, learn something new or strike a pose. This is a family friendly event so music will be appropriate. For those of you who have not been to the space yet, there is a large waiting room, separate from the pole room, so there is some privacy. Vendors/raffles will take place in the waiting room.
